Rationale
I noticed that shape keys can be quite a performance hog in blender when having many. I saw the awesome rigger Chad Vernon made a plugin for maya that computes blend shapes on the GPU, with a speed improvement of 32x.

prefer threaded for those of us with old non opencl stuff!
