Rationale

I really miss a UVW mapping modifier in Blender, Like the UVW Map modifier in 3ds Max.

Modifiers are used to modify mesh data - not sure a modifier would help uv's at all.
What you may be looking for is defining multiple uv's which is available under the mesh properties. Each new uvMap you define can contain uv's that you define with any method you choose - the uvmap selected when you unwrap stores the uv's you define at the time. With blender internal renderer each texture using uv mapping can then be defined to use a specific uvmap - with cycles you need to add a named attribute node to use a specific uvmap.
