last time i used photoshop (was version 7) and it sure had filters and layers, but in blender you can tie filters together as if yure making a mindmap, and mess around with way you connect those filters, if todays photoshop hasn't got that, blender would be able to kick photoshop ass !,
i mean there already are brushes and other drawing methods in blender, so it seems (to an ignorant non-programmer like me) like all that needs to be done is rearranging some userinterface metacode objects, like DTPblender did years ago.
i'd sure love to exclusively use blender, i never got into gimp, for whatever i need to do with images, i use either mypaint or krita.
but i'd rather use blender

There's already a fund raising action to include PS functionalities into Blender.
I think that's fantastic because thousands of graphic designers like me could switch to purely linux based platform with all possible benefits of it. I think PS is really the thing that hooks up many people on windows. Sadly gimp has a nasty type of community that prevents a blender like development, because the ideas are there, it's a great piece of software but it lacks middle ground developers that are abundant in blender community.
Hope that the development will go on
