Right now, all items inside outliner window are just sorted out by alphabetical order. With bigger projects, list exponentially grows so you should be able to choose a custom list view depending on your priorities. When modelling on example, you should not waste your time on scrolling up and down trying to find next mesh to model on or even changing it's name to have it on top other stuff in the list.
