In many OSes pressing a any key while dropdown list is open highlights item that begins with that key and then scrolls through repeating keys when pressed again. If used, this feature saves a couple of seconds each time the dropdown is open.

For instance:
Open modifyer dropdown, press "S", it highlights Subsurface. Then just press enter. No need to point with mouse or search for needed item anually.
