Written by Sedrick bowser the 18 Feb 11 at 09:04. Category: Rendering. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: Awaiting moderation
Rationale
When you change a texture or some visualization on an object that cant be viewed unless you render, then it takes time, even with the simplify option checked depending on your mesh, to render the object and view it, and even then you only see a little space of your object depending on your camera view. I'm submitting this idea because it would allow the artist to view the fully textured and rendered piece in 3d space and it would save time from checking the simplify option and rendering.

You seems to not be aware that blender have a 3d preview render since 2.42.
http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-242/render-pipeline/

It was not restored, yet. But it should be reimplemented in later releases.

Thanks for the heads up ^^ I wasnt able to tell but would it allow to move the rendered mesh and objects in 3d space?

Everything that is behind in the 3d view is rendered.
You can move objects in 3D space or change point of view.
Preview is updated when movement is finished and confirmed.

In 2.5 , GLSL shading and Textured viewport shading allows only to see in 3D View UVmapped non-procedural textures and buffer shadows.

Waiting preview to be restored, you can also define a border region to render in Camera view with shift B.
