Rationale
The paint has been improved in a nice way. And the projection painting (clone) is moved in the paint mode, it's an excellent idea IMO.
The idea is, it can normally be possible to use the background image to paint on a mesh. See an example with Mari : http://www.thefoundry.co.uk/products/mari/training/tours/
The problem is that the current background image viewer is not very suitable for this task.

This idea was developed during GSoC.
You can test an Source Image Panel in Vertex mode in NBishop (Ptex multires) branch.

You can not see texture overlayed in texture mode like in sculpt mode for the moment but it will probably be possible a near future.

Merci Zeauro,
That's a good new. Painting textures with this way will be a appreciated gain of time.
