Idea #220: A better Duplicate Linked

Written by phoenixart the 14 Oct 10 at 14:49. Category: Mesh Tools. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
I was trying to have a duplicated linked object with same deformation of the original. It seems that the only way is to replicate the same modifiers with the same parameters.

If I understand correctly, you want the modifiers of the duplicated object to be linked to the original. So when you make changes to the original modifier the duplicated object get the changes too.

Right?

Linking the modifiers can be done in 2 ways I think;
- Give them their own data block (not my preference)
- Link modifiers to either object data or mesh (geometry) data.

To explain: The materials can be linked to both the mesh data or the object. When you duplicate an object with shared mesh data you could (theoreticly) also inherit the modifier if it is linked to the mesh data.

The links menu is used to copy or link data blocks. So modifiers need to fit into that.
