Rationale

My wife has a Dell Vostro 3500 laptop with service tag 983TCN1. The laptop is about 16 months old. It is shutting down randomly when running while plugged into the charger. It will run on battery only, and runs with the charger only with no battery; so we assume the charger works. (Not sure yet how it behaves long term with battery only, or charger only, as it usually is with the charger plugged in and battery installed). Power Management reports the battery is fully charged (100%), but then shows there is a problem with the battery, and the computer may shut down suddenly. I am troubleshooting from 1800 miles away. Any ideas?
