Rationale
Hi,

by default Trackball is default Orbit Style. It's annoying loosing the horizontal adjustment. I don't know anyone who is using a Trackball for modelling.

Greetings
Martin

Heck yes!!
But your reasoning is wrong.

Just because you don't know anyone, that doesn't mean there aren't.
Personal opinion does not work. Ignore your personal feelings and reason globally, unbiased.

1) Every human that ever used a computer understands turntable. Every fps shooter, every RTS game, almost all 3D apps use Turntable, most of them don't even have trackball as the alternative. Everyone can use turntable without practice. Even children. Trackball is confusing and a first time user always gets lost and reach frustration. Trackball is hurting Blenders image, and makes Blender lose potential future users.

2) Trackball is NOT more advanced then turntable. Turntable can display as much information as trackball. The roll of the camera does not add more info, but it does add more confusion, as you totally lose the sense of up and down.

3) Every poll I ever seen turntable VS trackball, turntable wins by far. Twice and more. Even between blender users, there are way more turntable users then

...trackball.

Having turntable as default is a no-brainer for me and I have never heard A SINGLE valid argument why it shouldn't. Not a single one.

Of course Trackball has it's uses. Like, it may be used for navigating objects that don't have the right up down direction. But it would still be better if you could freely rotate the axis to which turntable is locked to. That would be the best of both worlds.
Many people still find trackball more comfortable then turntable. But it's in no way a valid default.

Hi,

you have better reasons, right ;)

The reasoning behind trackball is that it allows you to line up your view to the flow of geometric features, which allows for better selection/tweaking in some cases, which is not possible with trackball.
The people that don't understand why people use trackball haven't used it enough to appreciate its merits. I have yet to see a conclusive poll on whether most people really don't use trackball - in any case, rather than changing the default I would like to have the possibility to simple use both at the same time (like you can in Houdini)

Hi,

I understand. And do you mean: ...... election/tweaking in some cases, which is not possible with truentable. ?

On the other hand it is easier for new bees to the into Blender when turntable is default. And I think this should also be important.
I need 4 tries to get used to Blender and it's settings.
