Rationale
As of now when you are moving, rotating and scaling objects in blender you choose which orientation it is relative to.
Global good for transform relative to the grid and axes, Local good for moving along objects own "axes", gimbal good for moving and rotating the camera etc. If I am moving and rotating a lot of different objects I sometimes find that I have to change the Transform Orientation back and forth between two or more objects. This makes it slow to position a lot of objects.
